The dark side of a GLP-1?
How much I gained eating ice cream and pizza for 8 days straight
I just got home from an 8-day cruise. So much fun!
We sailed on the MSC Seascape. This Italian cruise line is known for its delicious pizza, and they did not disappoint.
I ate pizza and ice cream every single day. Multiple times a day! Like at least two slices, a soft serve ice cream, and a cup of gelato every day.
Plus some other real food too, but mostly pizza and ice cream.
So how much weight did I gain?
ONE POUND.
I thought for sure I had gained at least 10 pounds!
But that’s the thing about being on a GLP-1. It doesn’t really matter what you eat, because the medication does such a great job of controlling how much you want to eat. So even though I ate pizza and ice cream every day, my overall calories weren’t that much higher than my maintenance calories.
Is that a good thing?
Honestly, I don’t know!
Is it a good thing that we’re losing weight and reducing co-morbidities that will shorten our lifespan? Absolutely!
But is it a good thing that we can eat whatever we want and still lose weight? If we’re eating only junk food, probably not for long term health.
So this is a good reminder for me that being healthy takes effort and intentional choices.
Being in vacation mode is fun, but now that I’m back to real life, I’m back to the grind of taking care of myself. Here’s what that looks like for me:
waking up and walking each morning
focusing on eating protein and fiber at each meal
cooking and eating at home most of the time
staying hydrated
getting 7-9 hours of sleep each night
My latest video sums up all the details about my routine and how it helped me lost 125 pounds.
