I shared a video on YouTube this morning about my body recomposition phase and how, after losing 100 pounds on a GLP-1, I went from being a fluffy-but-healthy-weight person to having a lean, athletic, toned body for the first time in my life.
People ask me about this phase of my weight loss all the time, and I’ve always hesitated to talk about it.
Why?
Because after desperately wanting to just be healthy for so many years, it somehow felt… selfish? Extra? Maybe even a little vain to admit that once I got there, I wanted more.
But I did.
After I lost 100 pounds and reached a healthy weight for my height, I really thought that would be the end of my journey. But I had just turned 40, I felt better than I had in years, and I was so proud of what I had accomplished.
And I never want anyone to feel like they’re not doing enough. We really can’t compare!!
But I know that instead of feeling finished, I found myself wondering:
What else am I capable of?
So I kept going.
I lost another 25 pounds, but more importantly, I got serious about strength training.
And that completely changed my body.
After 40 years of living in a pear-shaped body that always carried some extra fluff, seeing muscle definition on my arms, legs, shoulders, and even my stomach was honestly wild. I had never thought of myself as someone who could have an athletic-looking body.
Turns out, I could.
The hard part about sharing this is that those last 25 pounds and building the muscle I have today were so much more work than losing the first 100 pounds.
The GLP-1 obviously helped me with both phases. I will never pretend otherwise. But medication can’t lift the weights for you. It can’t progressively overload your muscles. It can’t make you show up consistently for months and years.
Building muscle takes time. A lot of time.
And while you often hear that you should expect the number on the scale to go up when you build muscle, that wasn’t really my experience. I was able to lose fat while maintaining, and eventually building, lean mass.
One of the things that helped me so much during this phase was having more information than just my weight.
My smart scale allowed me to watch trends in body fat and muscle mass alongside the number on the scale. It helped me stop thinking of success as simply “weigh less” and start thinking about what I actually wanted my body to be able to do.
That’s why I’m so happy to partner with Renpho on today’s video and share the body composition scale I use every day. They’re also offering 20% off for Prime Day, so if you’ve been wanting one, you can check it out here.
But the bigger reason I wanted to make this video is because I know there are other women who have reached that point where they’ve lost the weight, improved their health, and suddenly find themselves asking:
Now what?
And I hope this is permission to set a new goal.
You’re allowed to want to be stronger. You’re allowed to be curious about what your body could look like or what it could do.
And I don’t think wanting those things takes anything away from the gratitude you have for how far you’ve already come.
For me, losing weight gave me my health and freedom back.
Building muscle showed me what I was capable of.
And at 42, I’m stronger than I have ever been in my life.
In today’s video, I’m sharing exactly what I did during that body recomposition phase: how I approached fat loss, how I changed my strength training, what I watched on the scale, and what I would tell someone who wants to lose fat and build muscle after significant weight loss.

Maybe your goal isn’t to get leaner. Maybe you don’t care about seeing muscle definition. That’s completely fine.
But if you’ve reached one goal and there’s a little voice in your head saying, I wonder what else I could do…
It may be worth finding out.
P.S. Today’s video is sponsored by Renpho- the brand behind the scale I have used and loved for years! They have a big sale on their body composition scale right now: https://lvnta.com/lv_zW0YxCM8xsDRjWBEAw

Going to watch the video now. Thank you. I had ordered the Renfro scale last time you mentioned it with your code. I like it so much more than the Hume body pod.
